Argon (Ar)
Noble gas with high natural abundance (almost 1% of the earth’s atmosphere) frequently used as protective gas due to its total chemical inertia. Often applied as process gas in plasma cleaning and plasma activation. Ar plasma does not cause chemical reactions with the substrate but is suited to sputter impurities (see microsandblasting) and to form radicals on organic polymers.
